Oyster by Nothankyou

A new music project from a member or two of Dirty Projectors, Nothankyou brings that vintage, but futuristic sound that we crave. Upon first listen I thought I could hear St. Vincent singing, I could feel my inner fangirl swelling inside. The song itself is intricate down to instrument choice. Tom Vek never dissapoints. Prepare to get addicted.

The Beat Comes by Snowden

No One in Control (February 19th, 2013 / Serpents & Snakes)

I’m convinced that any song with the word beat in it and has also been made in the last 5 months is golden.

Here’s a new song from the recent release off of the up and coming label Serpents and Snakes is No One in Control by Snowden.

Flying Lotus: Until The Quiet Comes

Steven Ellison is truly an amazing and talented man. There really isn’t much more to say. The man is a genius.

After seeing him live the other day, It is highly recommended that everyone go see him in concert. It is definitely worth it being that; The video affects are amazing, he is fantastic and his music is made up of nothing but golden gems.

Prescribed here, is an excellent video by Kahlil Joseph that is scored with songs off of the  Until The Quiet Comes album:

A genuine beauty is Getting There featuring the lovely voice of Niki Randa, which is conveniently featured in the end of the video as Storyboard P dances. The dream quality of the song and the effortless, clean sounds make for a feel good atmosphere that is out of this world. Enjoy.

Decoration Haze LP by Gathered Ghosts

Image

As I sit on the dimly lit plane traveling to the southwest, I am listening to Hand by Gathered Ghosts on repeat. This song sort of crept up on everyone it seems, a gem for sure, and probably my favorite song off the album. But really, Gathered Ghosts sort of crept up on everyone. The once solo producer, gone duet (avec the beautiful and talented Andreanna) and now band (+ James Kasinger and Kevin Rinker) producer, Javier Suarez is the producer to follow. The band’s on the rise and I’m hoping they go on an east coast tour soon!

Going back to the song though, the intro is perfect. At first you are not sure where exactly, the song will go but it gradually explodes into the power chords and sweet rhythm of the drums. Little by little the song layers in. First the melodic dreaminess of the lead guitar reeling in the harmonies of the synths and building up to vocals by Javier Suarez himself. One thing that I love about this song is the bass line, which, if I read correctly off their Facebook posts, was co-written by the song’s bassist (Kevin rinker).

Though, Hand might be my favorite song off the album, there are definitely some other great finds on the album as well. Some that I find myself coming back to over and over are Maze, Colors Turn Gray, Somehow, and Talk, Talk, Talk. The whole album kind of gives me an 80’s alternative vibe, especially with the synths and that delay pedal.

Basically though, the only way for you to decide whether you love this is to go onto bandcamp yourself and purchase this beauty. You wont be disappointed!

The Orbiters

A few weeks ago, some very exciting things began happening in a suburb of Monterey, California. A duo called The Orbiters, a reference to a Cold War era record, began playing music together. Taking inspiration from blues, rock and roll and 50s and 60s pop, the pair of talented young musicians has created an infectious first track. Titled “My Blues,” its feel is anything but sad. It’s the sort of song that reminds one of summertime and pretty days and it’s hard to keep from grooving around while listening to it. With this track, the Orbiters have managed to tap into that inexplicably yet universally loveable sound classic to 50s and 60s pop—and there is much more where it came from. The duo is continuing to work on new, exciting songs promised to be even better than the first. I doubt they will disappoint. So, show a new group some support. Listen to “My Blues” on SoundCloud and like The Orbiters on Facebook. They love it.
